While traveling to Boise, Idaho it was pointed out to me by the TSA check in lady that my driver license had expired on my birthday. I was happy that she wasn't a jack booty and let me go through with an expired license. Otherwise, I would have been stuck in Boise. Today I took it upon myself to get a new driver license.
Here is what the experience was like:
I entered the revenue office and took a number (164). I sat down and waited about five minutes before the customer service lady called my number. I approached the counter and told her that my drivers license had expired and I needed a new one. I gave her the old card and she asked me "Would you like to be an organ donar?". With little to no hesitation, I immediately said "No". I wonder what key her finger hovered over as I told her my answer. Then it dawned on me that I had listened to the Broadway Joe Radio Show commercial advertisement several times. The commercial specifically states that health care professionals will do every thing they can to save my life before taking my organs. So after thinking about that commercial a second later I told the customer service lady "yes, I will donate my organs". She said hold on a minute I have to go back into the system and update that information.
She looked at me kind of wierd and then I said 'it is the right thing to do and I want to save lots of lives after I die". She didn't say anything after I said that. She smiled and told me it is time to get my new picture taken. I signed this piece of paper and sat in the chair to get my picture taken. She finalized everything, gave me my new license, and told me "Thank You and Have a Nice Day". I told her "You do the same". So now I am a hero because I am an organ donar. Just think, my organs could possibly save at least 5 lives after I go on to glory.
So as of today (8/21/09), I am officially an organ donar.
I feel so good about this. I thought I would to share it with the world.
Are you an organ donar? If no, then why not?
Now back to this customer call number -164-. I think this number should represent my charge for this post. I want and am determined to get at least 164 people to educate themselves and others about the process for becoming an organ donar & most of all become an organ donar.
Go to the organ donar website for more detailed information about the process: http://www.organdonor.gov/
Thanks for participating,
